Friends Village is a community for older adults that has been in continuous operation in beautiful Newtown for the last 125 years. Guided by the science of healthy aging, and the Quaker values of simplicity, inclusion, dignity, and purposeful living, its Mission is: “To foster purposeful living and social connectivity through a community of kindness.”
Since fall 2021, Friends Village has partnered with Senior Planet to become a licensed training site that provides free technology classes to adults over age 60. To date, they have trained nearly 100 older adults on the use of computers, e-mail, Zoom, and more!
Senior Planet is a program of OATS (Older Adult Technology Service), a charitable affiliate of AARP. Using Senior Planet’s curriculum, designed with older adult learners in mind, Friends Village aims to help those over the age of 60 build their technology skills to make new friendships, improve their health, save money, advocate in their communities, and thrive in the digital world.
Beginning on July 31st, Friends Village will offer a five-week Computer Essentials Course. Some limited computer experience is suggested for this course but is not required. Windows based PC’s will be utilized in class. Laboratory hours will be provided for practice.
In addition to this foundational course, lectures on the use of Smartphones Photography, Google Photos, and YouTube will be offered as well. Classes are FREE and fill quickly, so don’t wait to call.
All instruction is provided at the Friends Village Styer campus at 331 Lower Dolington Road, Newtown, PA 18940. For more information, contact Courtney Slensky at call 215-968-3346 ext. 105, or via e-mail at cslensky@friends-village.org.
