Back-to-school preparations should include the car!
As you make sure your student has everything they need for their dorm room and to be successful in the classroom, don’t forget to make sure their car is prepared for safe travel. Now is the perfect time to have a regular maintenance checkup to insure everything is working properly.
Here is a list of items to be checked prior to the start of the school year:
- Check Oil & Filter;
- Check Brakes;
- Check Tires;
- Top Off All Fluids;
- Check Wiper Blades & Washer Fluid;
- Test your Battery;
- Check Tire Spare and be sure you have a working jack;
- Have Proof of Registration and Insurance;
- Put together a Car Emergency Kit (see suggestions below).
A car emergency kit should fit the needs of the climate where your student will be residing so keep that in mind as you assemble your items. Some key items to include are jumper cables (with instructions), tire pressure gauge, first aid kit, flashlight, shovel, blanket, bottled water, and snacks.
If you have some type of roadside assistance service, be sure that the student is included on the plan and that they have the correct membership card and phone number. It is also good to ask for a recommendation on a reputable auto mechanic once they arrive in case an issue arises in the future.
