Neshaminy Valley Music Theatre, Buck’s County’s award-winning community theatre, will present Mary Poppins on April 13th, 14th, 19th, 20th and 21st at Neshaminy High School, 2001 Old Lincoln Highway, Langhorne, Friday’s at 8:00pm, Saturdays at 3:00 and 8:00pm, and Sundays at 3:00pm.
The production is directed/choreographed by Barrymore Award-nominated Stephen Casey with a cast and production team of more than 50 Delaware Valley residents.
The Mary Poppins stage musical is based on Disney’s film musical which was based on the P.L Travers books, with music by Richard and Robert Sherman, Anthony Drewe and George Stiles and book by Julien Fellowes (Downton Abbey, The Gilded Age).
While the stage musical is slightly different in plot from the film and includes new music, the story faithfully follows the magical nanny who arrives on the troubled Banks family’s doorstep in 1910 England.
Using a combination of magic and common sense, Mary must teach the family members how to value each other again.
Along with jack-of-all trades, Bert, Mary takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect.
Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.”
Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers, and astonishing stagecraft.
NVMT, founded in 1956, has produced a musical annually to raise funds for scholarships to Neshaminy High seniors who plan to study the arts – nearly $170,000 awarded to date.
Tickets are $26 adults, $24 seniors, and $15 youth, discounted in advance; additional $2 at the door. Any ticket is good for any seat, any show date/time.
