How do I find the right Realtor to represent me when buying a home?

#kelleher3-24

Buying a home is a BIG DEAL.

I mean, a REALLY big deal – probably the largest single purchase of your life.

Which is why the agent you choose to work with REALLY MATTERS.

And it continues to amaze me how some just decide to work with the agent who happens to be sitting at an open house.

Or their neighbor who has a full-time job but sells real estate “on the side.”

Or the gal you went to high school with who just got her license because “she LOVES looking at houses!” –  and hasn’t sold one yet.

In this highly competitive market, working with an experienced agent who knows how to structure an offer and has cultivated relationships with other agents is critical to actually purchasing a home – not just writing offers for one.

Here are some of the questions you should be asking those who you are considering working with:

*How long have you been in the business and are you full-time?

*How many homes did you sell last year? How many were buyers?

*What designations or certifications do you have? (This indicates whether they take the business seriously enough to continue their education);

*What’s your business philosophy? (Are they earn-and-burners or are they looking to form lasting relationships?);

*Will you represent me exclusively or are you a dual agent (representing both parties in a transaction);

*How do you get paid?

*Do you have relationships with service providers – Mortgage, title, movers, repair people, etc.

*Can you provide me with the names and contact info for your three most recent clients?

Buying a home is a serious and often stressful endeavor.

Work with an agent who takes this business and their reputation seriously and has a track record of success regardless of market conditions.
