Anne of Green Gables

Coming for the Newtown stage in June

The classic children’s novel comes to the Newtown Theatre stage from June 20th through 23rd in Newtown Arts Company’s production of Anne of Green Gables. Join us for this refreshing, contemporary telling of the classic story set in the late 19th century.

The play recounts the adventures of Anne Shirley from around 12 to 16 years old, as she grows into a young woman and impacts the town of Avonlea.

Mistakenly adopted by stern Marilla and her warm-hearted brother Mathew who thought they were adopting a boy to work on their farm, they receive the red-headed, freckled Anne instead, and their lives will never be the same. Her warmth and wit affect everyone around her.

This production, under the direction of Mary Liz Ivins of Lawrenceville, New Jersey, was first presented in October 1990 at the Lubbock Community Theatre in Lubbock, Texas.

Adapted by Sylvia Ashby and based on the book by L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables (Ashby Non-Musical) is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French., Inc. www.concordtheatricals.com.

Performance dates are Thursday, June 20th, Friday, June 21st, and Saturday, June 22nd at 7:30pm (evening performances), and Saturday, June 22nd and Sunday, June 23rd at 2pm (matinees).
