Plumstead Friends hosting Doan Gang presentation

Plumstead Quakers invite you to join them on Saturday, June 15th at 4:00pm at their historic meetinghouse for a presentation about the Revolutionary War era Doan outlaws.

Two members of the gang, Levi Doan, and his cousin Abraham, are buried on the Plumstead Meeting property after they were hanged in Philadelphia.

This presentation is a complement to Mercer Museum’s exciting new major exhibition, The Doan Gang: Outlaws of the Revolution, that explores the history and intrigue of a group of Revolutionary War-era Loyalists whose legend lives on today.

The exhibition runs from now until December 31st.

In their presentation entitled Tories and Taverns, Annie Halliday, Mercer Museum Director of Archives, and Clint Flack, Exhibits Specialist, will talk about some of the extraordinary tales of the Gang’s criminal exploits throughout the region and explore the conflicts that arose among neighbors, friends, and families in Bucks County who were forced to choose sides during a time of great political and social unrest.

They will relate tales of the Loyalist outlaws’ frequent visits to taverns and highlight these stories with fun and interesting artifacts from the museum.

Plumstead Friends Meeting is located at 4914A Point Pleasant Pike, Doylestown. Admission is free, and seating is on a first-come first-served basis; donations are welcome.
