The Morrisville Environmental Advisory Council (MEAC) and Morrisville Borough give a hearty thank you to Girl Scout Cadette/Senior Troop 2888 for their first bench donation to Williamson Park in Morrisville. GSEP Troop 2888 is a multi-level troop that meets in Morrisville.
The bench was donated as part of the ongoing Trex Company Community Recycling Challenge where recycling 1,000 pounds of plastic raises a bench for the community.
Recycling plastic film diverts plastic waste from landfills, and this initiative led by the scouts has helped to raise awareness of the excessive amounts of plastic we use while contributing toward a collective effort to beautify our borough.
The Girl Scouts collected at school and from their own families, in addition to drop-off sites at Twisted Root Chiropractic and Morrisville Presbyterian Church.
Many thanks also go to the Morrisville community who have contributed to this remarkable goal, proving that together we can continue working toward a sustainable intentional community.
Not all plastics could be collected as part of the program. NexTrex specifically recycles film plastics like plastic shopping bags, bread bags, produce bags, bubble wrap, and cling film that are clean and stretchy. For a full list of plastics that can be donated please visit the NextTrex Recycling Challenge website or the MEAC Facebook page.
While Girl Scout Troop 2888 set the stage for the NexTrex recycling program in our community, Girl Scout Troops 2151 and 2692 are continuing the collection.
The Oakville Service Unit has committed to four benches for Williamson Park, and that means we are working together to keep over 4000 pounds of plastics out of landfills.
Drop off bins are located at Twisted Root Chiropractic, 54A Bridge St., and Morrisville Presbyterian Church, 771 Pennsylvania Avenue.
