Jamison resident publishes ninth children’s book

Chyrsa Smith proudly displays her newly-released children’s book, “Look Up, Little Mouse”.

Jamison resident Chrysa Smith is proud to announce the release of her newest children’s book, “Look Up, Little Mouse”, the tale of a little mouse’s faith journey.

Smith is no newbie to the writing world. “I’ve been writing children’s books for grades K-3 since 2007 with the introduction of my first work, which later turned into a series,” she explained. These tales were formed while watching my two poodles—and the ideas just began to stream. It was then that I took some children’s writing classes and stepped out on my own.”

She describes her books as “endearing, silly, and innocent, each exhibiting virtues such as sharing, caring, adjusting, protecting, growing.”

Six of her books are poodle-connected (“The Adventures of the Poodle Posse” and “Once upon a Poodle”), followed by tales of Dory Oslo–the protagonist and tough young lady, who finds herself in some magical situations in “The Upside-Down Gardener” and “A Grand Slam Birthday”.

Smith’s ninth and newest children’s book, “Look Up, Little Mouse” chronicles a little mouse who finds himself in one sticky situation.

Running as fast as his little legs would take him to escape who he saw as a scary man with a broom, he winds up at the top of a church’s belltower. Frozen in fear, he’s afraid when he looks up or down for fear of falling. Some other creatures pass his way trying to offer help, but his fear is too great.

Finally, a lovely dove lands by his side and explains the concept of faith over fear—-he can overcome his obstacles and worries if he just believes and uses what he has been given to find his way back home.

When not at her computer, Smith can be found in school auditoriums, including those in Council Rock, Central Bucks, Centennial, Pennridge, Morrisville, Bensalem, Neshaminy, and parochial schools throughout the Philadelphia Diocese, speaking with students about the writing process– from finding ideas to finessing them to creating a plot to producing a book.

Her visits are both entertaining and educational. “Each year, the presentation changes, and students often leave my presentations saying, ‘I want to write a story.’” says Smith.A bonus is my lengthy background in writing for just about everyone.”

In addition to writing children’s books, she has been writing freelance magazine features for over 20 years–on everything from celebrity chefs and resorts to homing pigeons and pot-bellied pigs.

“I still write for several lifestyle magazines, which provide me with a different set of challenges. Writing is my passion, and that passion has helped to bring some award-winning books (Females in Fiction, Mom’s Choice, Amazon’s Children’s Bookshelf) to young readers all over the globe–from Guatemala to Poland and places in-between.”
