Friends Village announces fall programming

Friends Village is excited to present an enriching lineup of fall events and workshops that explore a variety of exciting topics. The season kicks off with, “Phineas Pemberton: Letters from Pennsylvania’s Past,” on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Local historian and horticulturist, Charlie Thomforde will explore Pemberton’s impact on early Pennsylvania society.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 23, Beacon Hill Friends House will present, “Living Within Your New Call: Discovering Vocational Joy in Retirement.” This two-session workshop uses Quaker practices to help retirees discover new vocational paths.

“Choosing Democracy in the Midst of Political Polarization” will be held on Tuesday, Oct.1. Author and activist, George Lakey, will provide insights on navigating political polarization based on historical contexts.

Starting September 28, the “People & Stories” workshop will present literary short stories and engage in guided discussions during its 8-week session.

On Tuesday, October 8, the Bucks County League of Women Voters will present, “Eliminating the Electoral College: Electing the President by Popular Vote,” which discusses the case for abolishing the Electoral College.

Historian and author, Pat Mervine, will return to share her latest discovery of untold stories in, “More Tales from the Bucks County Underground Railroad,” on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

Friends Village also offers a series of technology workshops through Senior Planet. Starting October 7, these will include: a five-week long Computer Essentials course, Smartphones at a Glance, Google Photos, Sharing Photos with a Smartphone, and Smartphone Camera Uses Beyond Photography.

“Yoga for Seniors,” a six-week workshop led by Joe Simek, will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 2 pm from October 7 through November 14. Joe, an Internationally Certified Yoga Therapist, will guide participants through practices to enhance physical and mental well-being.
