The annual “Shop with a Cop”; event has become a beloved tradition that helps children and families from all across Lower Bucks County. It is a program that began eight years ago in Middletown Township but has since grown to include nineteen other police departments from all over the Bucks County area.
Their mission is simple – to brighten the holiday season for Bucks County children and families who are in need. This heartwarming initiative brings together police officers and children for a special shopping experience during the holiday season, fostering community spirit and providing invaluable support to local families.
To raise funds for this noble cause, a local business owner, Jeff Bethman, spearheaded the creation of an annual golf outing. This outing is in its third year and attracts enthusiastic participants from all walks of life, industry and golf skill level.
This year’s event will be hosted at the beautiful Yardley Country Club. The funds generated from the golf outing allow children to shop for holiday presents for themselves and their loved ones.
On the designated shopping day, the children are paired with police officers who volunteer their time to create a memorable experience. The officers and kids stroll through stores, selecting gifts while sharing stories and building bonds that last well beyond the holiday season.
All donations are handled by the Middletown Community Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. These are restricted funds, ONLY to be used for Shop with Cop.
Over the past eight years, this program has helped several thousand children that are nominated by counselors, friends, or family members. Thanks to the unwavering support of the community and the dedication of the officers, this program continues to light up the lives of many, spreading joy and goodwill throughout the holiday season.
