Friends Village kicks off exciting fall programming
Friends Village offers an engaging array of events and workshops for its fall season of Growth and Change programming. While designed with older adults in mind, adults of any age are welcome to attend!
The season begins with “Phineas Pemberton: Letters from Pennsylvania’s Past” on Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 2 pm. Local historian and horticulturist Charlie Thomforde will delve into Pemberton’s influence on early Pennsylvania society.
On Monday, Sept. 23 and Tuesday, Sept. 24, Beacon Hill Friends House will host “Living Within Your New Call: Discovering Vocational Joy in Retirement.” This two-session workshop employs Quaker principles to help retirees explore new vocational avenues. Sessions run from 2 pm-6 pm each day, with refreshments provided.
“Choosing Democracy in the Midst of Political Polarization” will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 2 pm. Author and activist George Lakey will offer perspectives on managing political division through historical lenses.
Beginning September, the “People & Stories” workshop will present and discuss literary short stories over eight Wednesdays at 2 pm.
On Tuesday, Oct. 8th at 2 pm, the Bucks County League of Women Voters will offer “Eliminating the Electoral College: Electing the President by Popular Vote.”
Historian and author Pat Mervine returns on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 2 pm to present “More Tales from the Bucks County Underground Railroad,” revealing exciting untold stories from the past.
For adults aged 60 and over, Senior Planet free technology training will begin on Oct. 7th, with the five-week “Computer Essentials” course and continue with: “Smartphones at a Glance” on Nov. 11, “Google Photos” on November 13, “Sharing Photos with a Smartphone” on November 18, and “Smartphone Camera Uses Beyond Photography” on November 20.
“Yoga for Seniors,” a six-week workshop led by Joe Simek, will be held on Mondays and Thursdays at 2 pm from Oct. 7 through Nov. 14. Joe, an Internationally Certified Yoga Therapist, will lead participants in practices designed to improve physical and mental well-being.
