Spotlight: Adopt a South African Preschool

ASAP Gives the Gift of Learning to Disadvantaged South African Preschoolers

Would you like to help countless children access educational toys? Would you like to give a gift that keeps on giving well past the holidays?  Would you like to honor someone with a donation?

Adopt a South African Preschool (ASAP) is a Yardley-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2020. ASAP establishes libraries of educational toys in the huge, impoverished communities formed by apartheid’s segregation laws. In this first and third world country, most young children languish in overcrowded, under-resourced daycares. Many have never held a toy.

ASAP and a nonprofit South African partner called PEN (Participate, Envision, Navigate) help informal daycares become functional preschools. Three PEN coaches mentor 30 daycare owners at each ASAP toy library support center. They collaborate on lesson plans and borrow educational toys, games, books, puzzles, musical instruments, and sports equipment. Owners glow as they improve their settings and help children learn through play. Essential physical, cognitive, and social skills are now gained in these safe, caring, and stimulating settings.

ASAP’s 8 Toy Library Support Centers Resources:

  • 223 preschools,
  • 1,162 women,
  • 10,790 children

And we’ve only just begun ASAP’s mission is that every South African child has a quality preschool experience.

Why Our Mission Matters:

  • 90% of brain development is “wired to fire” before kindergarten, if nurtured. First grade predicts life success.
  • 40% of South African 4th graders cannot read. Another 40% read without understanding.
  • Cycles of generational poverty are reliably interrupted by education.
  • Women flourish when given opportunities to grow.

ASAP is an all-volunteer organization whose mission is funded by American and South African donors and organizations: Tax ID # 87-2630897 To learn more or to donate go to: www.adoptasouthafricanpreschool.org.
