The election is finally over (thank heavens!!!) Now what?!?
Well, that’s the question on everyone’s mind, right?!? Will the folks President-elect Trump is nominating for cabinet positions actually get confirmed? What will their impact be on his agenda? What impact will his agenda have on the economy? Housing? Interest rates? Unemployment?
Of course, if I had the answers to all those questions, I’d be on a beach in Tahiti with a colorful, refreshing cocktail, possibly in a coconut, that has one of those pretty little umbrellas in it. But since I can’t predict the future, I’ll continue to help people buy and sell homes, as I have for over 30 years, in a multitude of political environments.
Trump’s presidency may give rise to significant challenges or have a positive impact on the market as a whole. It is way too early to speculate.
So, I’ve decided to focus on what I do know. Like there is far more that unites us than divides us – in our nation, in our neighborhoods and in our families. Like people are so passionate about the issues because they love this country – imagine if no one cared? Like if we could remind ourselves to listen so we can learn, rather than to respond, perhaps there’s a way to build consensus. Like perhaps your mother was right – often, half a pie is better than none.
What does this have to do with real estate? Nothing really. But as you gather in your homes this holiday season, whether it’s with friends, family or neighbors, I hope not only the volume on the “boob-tube” (my mother again!) gets turned down, so does the rhetoric. Perhaps you can suck it up and turn a blind eye to your in-laws’ idiosyncrasies. If necessary, pour another cocktail. And then give thanks.
