Spotlight: The Friends of the Yardley-Makefield Branch Library

“When in doubt go to the library.” J.K. Rowling

The Friends of the Yardley-Makefield Branch Library is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing support for the services and resources of the library.

We are a group of residents who believe that an excellent library is an essential community asset that reinforces lifelong learning and provides access to information for all.

Funding for our mission comes from membership contributions, donations, estate gifts, and our annual book sale. The Fall Book Sale is our most anticipated and best-known event, and the primary source of funding. It features a wonderful selection of books, audio books, puzzles, CDs, DVDs and specialty items, all at bargain prices.

The Friends fund special programs at the library, which are offered throughout the year. These programs are free and open to the public. The popular 2 pm Saturday programs cover a wide variety of subjects. Dates and topics are listed on our website. Tai Chi sessions are offered on Wednesdays at 2 pm, and Chair Yoga sessions are offered on Thursdays at 2 pm.

We also support various library programs and renovations that improve the library experience.

If you would like to get involved, there are many options:

Preparation for the book sale goes on throughout the year and involves organizing donated books and other items. We also need help with setup, work at the sale, and clean-up afterwards.

Publicity opportunities include being a media contact, managing our website and social media, helping with programming and membership, and more!

Scheduling is flexible; all help is appreciated, and some help can be provided from home.

GET INVOLVED AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN YOUR COMMUNITY!

To find out how you can get involved, join us at an informational meeting on March 18 from 10 – 10:30 am in the library conference room. Learn more at ymfriends.org or email us at yardleyfriends@yahoo.com.
