Morrisville Library kicked off Super Bowl weekend with a special event just for kids; it was a Super Bowl Eve Party on Saturday, February 8. This free event brought together young football fans for an hour of excitement, crafts, and games inspired by the upcoming showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Children’s librarian Jessica Evans shared her enthusiasm for the event, noting that about 20 children and 14 adults participated. The young attendees, ranging from preschoolers to fifth graders, came together to celebrate their love for football while enjoying interactive activities and learning opportunities.
“There was a lot of excitement about the game,” said Evans. “The goal was to get kids together with others who were just as excited as they were. Anytime you can bring people into the library is a win, so we won with the event and we won with the Super Bowl!”
One of the highlights of the event was a life-sized inflatable football player, affectionately called Buddy. Kids eagerly took turns tossing footballs into an opening in Buddy’s hands, mimicking real game scenarios. “It was a simulation of the game coming up,” Evans explained.
Beyond the football fun, the event included football-related activities that engaged children’s minds. A screen was set up for brain breaks, where kids learned Super Bowl facts, brushed up on Eagles trivia, and, of course, sang the Eagles fight song multiple times; a crowd favorite. Children also shared stories about how their families enjoy the Super Bowl, discussing favorite game-day snacks and traditions.
Creativity was in full swing with crafts and STEM activities. Kids made friendship bracelets; a subtle nod to Taylor Swift and her “Eras Tour” without directly favoring the Chiefs. A sign at the bracelet-making station playfully read, “Friendship bracelets in my football era.”
The event also included LEGO building challenges where children constructed goal posts, stadiums with seating, and even trophies, adding an educational engineering aspect to the festivities. “It was great for kids who enjoy STEM work,” Evans said. “It added a learning aspect to the evening.”
The event provided numerous benefits, including socialization, teamwork, and taking turns during activities. “We listened to music, had a lot of fun, and made it a real party,” Evans added.
Morrisville Library continues to offer engaging activities for kids. Every Saturday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 AM, children from preschool through fifth grade can participate in Open Play, where they can explore the library’s selection of community toys, including a beloved train set. Families are welcome to drop in and enjoy the space as a warm, inviting place to build community connections.
