Founded in 1945, the Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (BCABVI) is the only nonprofit organization in Bucks County, offering services that empower people with significant vision loss.
BCABVI’s vision is rich, vibrant, and independent lives for their clients.
When Paul B. was diagnosed with several progressive eye diseases, he knew he needed help to continue to live independently in his home but didn’t know what services were available.
At BCABVI, Paul was evaluated by the Low Vision Clinic optometrist who prescribed prisms (special eyeglasses) and recommended devices. Staff worked to develop an individual plan of care for Paul.
He learned to use the white cane to travel safely in his home and community. Assistive technology training allowed him to continue using his phone, computer, and Alexa.
Paul receives in-home support for grocery shopping, paying his bills, and coordinating trips to the doctor with transportation staff. He participates in BCABVI support groups and social activities and appreciates the camaraderie of others going through similar experiences.

BCABVI also provides community outreach with Experience Vision Loss events, presentations at schools and organizations, as well as free preschool vision screenings.
Most services are offered at no charge, and no one is turned away based on an inability to pay.
To offset the cost of these valuable services, BCABVI owns and operates Second Look Newtown Thrift Shop, located at 400 Freedom Drive in Newtown.
All donations are tax-deductible and 100% of proceeds from purchases support BCABVI’s services and programs.
