The Washington Crossing Chapter Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) held its Washington’s Birthday dinner meeting on February 13th. Revolutionary War Author and Historical Interpreter Mr. Larry Kidder was the guest speaker.
He is author of nine books about colonial life, five focusing on the American Revolution in the Mercer and Bucks County area. He gave an interesting talk on “Washington’s Crossings during December 1776.”
The presentation was based on both his book, titled “Ten Crucial Days: Washington’s Vision for Victory Unfolds,” and new information from his current research on the almost daily crossings in December 1776.
Those stories will bring new light to the famous crossing on Christmas night that led to the Battle of Trenton. Mr. Kidder is writing a new book based on this research.
He was honored by the chapter at the dinner meeting with the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal.
The medal and certificate were presented by SAR Chapter President Bob Reiser and First Vice President Steven Ware for Kidder’s outstanding work in support of the SAR’s goals and objectives.
His work promotes the historical and accurate story of the Crossing and the following 10 crucial days of the American Revolution.
Larry has been instrumental in furthering the Chapter’s primary goal: that of the careful perpetuation and accurate teaching of the Crossing and the stories of local Revolutionary War patriots.
Mr. Kidder’s historical research, authorships and interpretive education programs promote the accurate story of Revolutionary War events in the Mercer and Bucks County area.
The events during the “10 crucial days,” many believe, were the turning point in setting the Patriots on a course to victory over the British.
As a founding member of the non-profit TenCrucialDays.org he helps narrate full-day bus tours of Ten Crucial Days sites. Mr. Kidder has over 35 years of volunteer service to the Howell Living History Farm.
He has been president of two local historical societies, is a consultant at four local historical sites, a contributor to projects for Crossroads of the American Revolution, and is a tour guide at Princton Battlefield.
