Elizabeth Todderud, of Newtown, was recognized on May 15th for her volunteer service to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Camp Lejeune office.
Since June of 2005 she has hand-crafted 340 blankets for the Society’s Budget for Baby program resulting in over 10,000 volunteer hours.
According to Society Director Rita Fountain of Camp Lejeune, “Elizabeth’s blankets are a special blessing to each of our Navy and Marine Corps Families that attend our class, as they prepare for the arrival of their new baby. For 19 years, we have been exchanging yarn, blankets and love notes from a distance (537 miles to be exact).”
The presentation was conducted on behalf of the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society by the Marine Corps League Patriot Detachment 1230 at its May 15th meeting.
Detachment Commandant Michael Clark echoed the words of the Society, who said, “As a token of our appreciation, we are honored to present you with a 10,000 hour pin along with a custom etched glass wedge. We cannot express enough how meaningful your gifts are. They make a tremendous impact on the lives of Marines, Sailors and their families here at Camp Lejeune”.
At the presentation along with Elizabeth were her husband Gordon, daughter Elise and son Stephen.
