Make your mark on the Preserve

Participate in our new Citizen Science Program on Phenology

Join us for training: Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 am – 12 pm. Participation is FREE

The Bowman’s Hill Wildflower needs you to help us understand how the changing climate affects our native plants. Our new Citizen Science Program on Phenology is the perfect opportunity to get involved. Phenology is the study of the timing and cyclical patterns of events in the natural world—particularly those related to the annual life cycles of plants, animals and other living things. We are looking for volunteers who wish to learn more about the life cycle of our plants, form deeper connections to our plants and explore the Preserve on a regular basis.

This 2-hour training class will introduce the program, teach you how to observe plants and help you make your first set of observations out on the trails. You will be assigned a group of plants to observe on a (roughly) weekly basis. The data that you record will not only become part of the Preserve’s database but also a national database. This data is critical for decision-making on local, national and global scales to ensure the continued vitality of our environment.

Registration is required for participation before the training day. Recommended for adults and children 12+
