Historical Society of Hilltown Township Speaker Program

The Doan Gang was a group of British loyalists, the most notorious members being five brothers and one cousin from the Doan family of Plumstead. The gang composed of about 50 members who were accused murderers, traitors, horse thieves, and ferried British prisoners of war to British lines. They were guilty of robbing tax collectors, their most famous crime being the theft of the Bucks County treasury in 1781.

This program, taking place Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 pm, will cover the thrilling history of their activities and frequent visits to colonial taverns in Bucks County. Not only a stop for weary travelers, taverns were the ‘town halls’ of Revolutionary Bucks County, conducting elections and government meetings.  Many enemies of the Doan gang were tavern keepers. Free, Donations appreciated

This program will be held at the Hilltown Township Municipal Bldg, 13 W. Creamery Rd. & Rt. 152, in Hilltown, PA.
