Spotlight: Reach Out Foundation of Bucks County

Reach Out began in the basement of a Morrisville church in 1996 by founder Kathy Sharp with a few people gathered to offer mental health support. For over 25 years, the Reach Out Foundation of Bucks County has been providing support to the community. Today it operates out of a rented building in Penndel Borough and provides services to over 400 people a month.

What started out as a small gathering of people has blossomed into a mental health and homeless drop-in day shelter.  It offers a safe place for everyone to receive support, meals, clothing, showers and wash clothes.

Per board president, Desiree Arney, the center needs a new, full size stackable washer and dryer. “Our current washer and dryer are too small to meet the needs of the participants, especially in cold, wet weather,” said Arney. “Also, donations of gift cards to Walmart, Home Depot, or Lowes are desperately needed.”

The center is open 5 days a week and provides services free of charge. Transportation is provided to and from the center for those needing a ride. Each day begins with social time and check-in where everyone is encouraged to share. The remainder of the day is spent developing social skills, crafts, music, chair yoga, self-care, or games depending upon the day.

We are the only 501(c)3 non-profit, mental health/homeless drop-in center in this area.  We attempt to empower people with mental health and addiction disorders and/or homelessness to advocate for themselves.
